With more than four decades in district heating, Lars Gullev combines deep technical expertise with long-standing international leadership. Today, as the founder of Gullev DH Advisory (est. 1 May 2025), he supports the sector’s green transition across Europe in close collaboration with utilities, suppliers, and public partners.
Lars Gullev has extensive experience in the district heating sector. He began with 13 years (1979–1992) at a consulting engineering firm focused on national heat planning and the design of district heating pipelines and natural gas distribution networks.
He then spent 33 years at VEKS, the district heating company serving 170,000 end-users in Greater Copenhagen, first as Technical Director (1992–1997), then as CEO (1997–2022), and most recently as Senior Consultant for nearly three years.
International collaboration has been a constant priority. Lars Gullev has been active in DBDH since 1992, participating in export promotions, hosting foreign delegations, and contributing articles and editorials to HOTCOOL. He has served three terms as DBDH Chair and is currently Chief Editor of HOTCOOL.
From 1996 to 2010, he represented Denmark in the district heating expert group under Nordic Energy Research, supporting PhD projects across the Nordic countries; after 2000, the group expanded to include the Baltic states. Since 2002, on behalf of the Danish Energy Agency, he has represented Danish interests in the IEA DHC TCP, which finances international R&D projects in district heating.
In line with his commitment to international cooperation, Lars Gullev launched Gullev DH Advisory in May 2025 to accelerate the sector’s decarbonisation globally. He is currently engaged in projects in Poland and Ukraine with DBDH and Danish suppliers – advancing resilient, low-carbon heat while also strengthening market opportunities for Danish solution providers.
