Winner of the District Heating Award 2025 is DIN Forsyning A/S, whose large plant at the harbour in Esbjerg helps put Danish district heating on the world map.

DIN Forsyning A/S has won the District Heating Award 2025 for its large-scale energy plant at the port of Esbjerg – a project that is helping to put Danish district heating on the global map.

The winner was announced Thursday evening during the Danish District Heating Association’s Annual Meeting at the Odense Congress Center, where members of the association chose the recipient of this year’s award.

“It’s fantastic,” said Claus A. Nielsen, Business Development Manager at DIN Forsyning. “We spent the first two years working to change legislation around combined heat and power requirements – so standing here today is just incredible.”

International inspiration for the green transition

DIN Forsyning was nominated for the award for its production facility “Future District Heating” at Esbjerg Harbour, which combines several innovative technologies with district heating at the centre – representing a major step forward in the city’s green transition.

With this project, DIN Forsyning is showcasing Danish district heating expertise to the world, and the results could have significant relevance for other European countries seeking to transition away from gas and coal.

A modular approach to future-proof energy systems

The company was also praised for designing the plant like a Lego board, where production units act as building blocks that can be moved, scaled, or replaced. This modular approach allows DIN Forsyning to adapt the facility to new technologies and future challenges.

Recognition from the Danish district heating sector

Kim Mortensen, Director of Dansk Fjernvarme, commended the winner:
“It’s an impressive transformation that DIN Forsyning has achieved — and it’s an important contribution to the green transition away from fossil fuels. They are very deserving winners of the 2025 District Heating Award.”

Other nominees for the award included Vestforbrænding and Envafors.
