The Danish Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program (EUDP) has awarded Green Therma DKK 84 million in funding for a full-scale demonstration of its Heat4Ever™ solution in Aalborg. This will be carried out in close collaboration with Aalborg Forsyning (District Heating) and other key partners.

Major milestone and recognition of innovation

The EUDP grant – and the financial feasibility it brings to the project – marks a major milestone for Green Therma. The fact that the funding is based on an expert evaluation by an independent panel is a strong recognition of both their technology and the vision behind Green Therma.

Unlocking geothermal potential in Denmark

Geothermal energy holds significant potential as a stable and renewable heat source. With this funding, Denmark now has a unique opportunity to further develop geothermal district heating as an integrated part of the future green energy mix. Green Therma’s Heat4Ever™ solution introduces a new and complementary technological approach specifically tailored to Danish conditions.

Flexible, scalable technology with DualVac™

The solution is based on a single well and a closed-loop system, enabling the development of highly flexible and locally scalable geothermal plants. Green Therma’s patented DualVac™ technology enhances the efficient use of the Earth’s natural heat. With Heat4Ever™, Green Therma delivers an innovative geothermal concept that complements other renewable technologies, helping to ensure a resilient heat supply nationwide.

Project timeline and long-term heat agreement

The project is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2025, with completion targeted for 2027. Green Therma will establish, finance, operate, and own the plant. A long-term agreement between Green Therma and Aalborg Forsyning ensures that Aalborg Forsyning will purchase heat from the plant for a period of 30 years, integrating it into the city’s existing district heating system.

Seamless integration into district heating

This agreement demonstrates that the Heat4Ever™ solution can be integrated directly into district heating networks without the need to increase temperatures using, for example, heat pumps.

Strong collaboration with leading partners

The project is a collaborative effort between Green Therma and its partners (Aalborg Forsyning, Aalborg University, Aarhus University, GEUS, and Energy Cluster Denmark) as well as leading suppliers in the fields of drilling, well services, energy systems, geology, and academia.

Green-Therma-signature_ceremonyJørgen Peter Rasmussen, CEO, adds:
“We are very proud to have received EUDP support. It shows that experienced experts recognize the significant role our innovative geothermal solution can play in the future of district heating. And the potential goes far beyond Denmark: our solution is designed to minimize many of the geological constraints that typically challenge geothermal projects. This means it can be deployed virtually worldwide, helping to promote sustainable energy supply on a global scale.”

Green Therma will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.

About Green Therma

Green Therma was founded in February 2023 by experienced Danish geologists with a vision to revolutionize geothermal energy for heat production worldwide. Its dedication to renewable energy and technological innovation is embodied in its groundbreaking geothermal technology and unique Heat4Ever™ solution.

The mission is to deliver competitive, reliable, and renewable heat for industry, infrastructure, communities, and cities through deep geothermal energy, with minimal environmental impact and very low emissions.

By utilizing a single, deep, horizontally drilled well, Green Therma effectively harvests the Earth’s thermal energy within a closed-loop system. Its patented DualVac™ technology optimizes heat production in a safe, operationally friendly, and environmentally responsible way, designed to last for decades. That is why the solution was named Heat4Ever™.
