Christian Jensby has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Denmark’s largest consulting engineering company. He joins from a position as CEO and partner at Deloitte Denmark, where he has been employed since 2011 – the past three years as the firm’s top executive.

He succeeds Jens-Peter Saul, whose departure was announced shortly before Christmas, when it became public that Rambøll had terminated the long-serving CEO. Rambøll employs more than 18,000 people worldwide.

“Rambøll’s development over recent decades has been impressive,”
— Christian Jensby, incoming CEO, Rambøll

During his time at Deloitte, Christian Jensby led a major transformation of the company and, together with the executive team, delivered solid growth in both revenue and earnings, following a period of less impressive financial performance.

Previously, Jensby headed Deloitte’s CFO Services practice and served as leader of the Clients & Industries division (Chief Commercial Officer).

Active in 35 countries

Sources within the consulting industry highlight that Jensby holds a Master’s degree in Auditing from Copenhagen Business School, providing him with the strong financial skillset considered necessary at Rambøll, where key financial indicators are no longer as strong as in the past.

According to the same sources, Rambøll has faced challenges in areas such as wind turbine foundations, sustainability services, and so-called societal resilience projects. Jens-Peter Saul’s departure is reportedly linked to these challenges and the resulting weaker financial performance. As a result, the incoming CEO has already been labelled a “clean-up specialist” in industry circles.

The right person for the role

Rambøll’s management has not been available for interviews regarding the appointment. However, in a written statement, Chairman of the Board Claus V. Hemmingsen stated:

“Rambøll’s Board of Directors is convinced that Christian has the right skills and competencies to develop and execute our group strategy and to lead Rambøll through its next phase of sustainable growth. We are also confident that, with his leadership capabilities, Christian is the right person to further strengthen Rambøll’s strong organisation and its many dedicated employees.”

Impressed by Rambøll’s development

Rambøll is a global architecture, engineering, and consultancy company with a leading position in sustainability. The new Group CEO will be responsible for more than 18,000 experts operating in 35 countries across Buildings, Transport, Environment & Health, Energy, Water, Architecture & Landscape, and Management Consulting.

“Rambøll’s development over recent decades has been impressive. I see strong opportunities for further growth and significant potential for the positive impact Rambøll can have on clients and society. I look forward to contributing to Rambøll’s continued success,” Christian Jensby said in the announcement.

Following Christian Jensby’s appointment, Rambøll’s Executive Management team will consist of CEO Christian Jensby, CFO Eva Kienle, CPO Lone Tvis, COO Michael Simmelsgaard, and COO Peter Heymann Andersen.
