WEBINAR: TURNING DISTRICT HEATING DATA INTO IMPACT

How can district heating utilities turn smart meter data into lower return temperatures, greater efficiency and real economic benefits?

The answer lies in moving beyond data collection and turning insights into action.

In this DBDH webinar, Fjernvarme Horsens and Kamstrup share their practical experience of using digital solutions, intelligent heat meter data and customer engagement to optimise district heating performance.

Lower temperatures, greater efficiency

Fjernvarme Horsens supplies district heating to approximately 23,000 homes and businesses, serving around 60,000 people.

As the utility prepares for a future with more heat pumps and electricity-based heat production, reducing network temperatures has become a strategic priority.

The potential benefits are significant. Fjernvarme Horsens estimates that reducing its average supply temperature from approximately 80°C to 70°C could generate annual savings of DKK 1.6 million through improved production efficiency.

But achieving lower temperatures requires more than technological improvements. It also depends on how efficiently customers use their heating systems.

From smart meter data to measurable results

Working with Kamstrup, Fjernvarme Horsens is demonstrating how digitalisation can support more efficient district heating operations.

By combining intelligent meter data, network monitoring and targeted customer communication, the utility is identifying inefficient installations and encouraging customers to improve their heating performance.

The results are encouraging.

Across several optimisation initiatives, Fjernvarme Horsens has achieved a reduction of approximately 1–2°C in the overall return temperature.

The webinar explores how Kamstrup’s Heat Intelligence and Return Temperature Optimiser solutions help transform existing meter data into valuable operational insights and concrete actions.

What’s next for intelligent district heating?

The discussion also looks ahead to the growing potential of demand-side management, digital twins and flexible heat consumption.

Could buildings become an important source of thermal flexibility? And how can district heating companies use digital technologies to improve efficiency without increasing operational complexity?

These are some of the questions shaping the next generation of intelligent district heating systems.

Watch the webinar and discover:

  • How Fjernvarme Horsens is reducing return temperatures and improving network efficiency.
  • How smart meter data and digital solutions support district heating optimisation.
  • Why customer engagement is essential for achieving lasting improvements.
  • How lower network temperatures can reduce costs and support the green transition.
  • What demand-side management could mean for the future of district heating.
