DBDH MEMBERS DISCUSSED PIPES, POWER-GRID CAPACITY, AND THE FUTURE OF DH

On June 4, DBDH members gathered at Assens Fjernvarme for a day of technical insights, debate, and networking focused on some of the most pressing issues facing the district heating sector.

The day began with a welcome and guided tour led by Marc Roar Hintze from Assens Fjernvarme, giving participants a close look at the utility’s production facilities and technologies. Elsebeth Arendt from Kredsløb subsequently welcomed participants to the members’ meeting.

The first main session explored new technologies for district heating pipes and was moderated by Morten Jordt Duedahl from DBDH.

Following an opening presentation by Jakob Storm Rasmussen from Fjernvarme Fyn, a supplier panel discussed the most important current developments, what district heating pipes may look like in five to ten years, and developments in international markets.

The panel consisted of:

  • Peter Jorsal, Kingspan LOGSTOR
  • Bo Olsen, Isoplus
  • Lars Thystrup, Brugg Pipes
  • Gert Bøgeskov Kristensen, Skanego

The second session addressed a growing challenge for the sector: what happens when electricity-grid capacity becomes a barrier to the electrification of district heating?

Moderated by Hanne Kortegaard Støchkel from DBDH, the session featured presentations and perspectives from:

  • Morten Stobbe, Ingeniør Huse
  • Henning Parbo, Energinet
  • Carsten Østergård Pedersen, presenting societal and business perspectives
  • Ebbe Nørgaard, Fenagy

The speakers then participated in an open-chair panel debate with contributions and questions from the audience.

At Fjernvarmetorvet, members shared further knowledge and perspectives. Marc Roar Hintze delivered a “speech to the nation”, while Henrik Dalsgård from COWI spoke about how the Danish district heating sector contributes to the green transition internationally.

Further presentations were delivered by Morten Tony Hansen from Ea Energianalyse on integrated energy systems, Christian Fredslund from Clean Heat Partners on the requirements for installing large-scale heat pumps, and Daniel Stenstrup Rasmussen from Steel Tank on thermal storage as a foundation for integrating more renewable energy. Ramboll also presented perspectives on cybersecurity.

A highlight of the day was the presentation of the annual DBDH awards. COWI was named DBDH Company of the Year, while Jens Andersen from Næstved Fjernvarme was named DBDH Person of the Year. Congratulations to both.

The day concluded with the DBDH members’ dinner at Gl. Avernæs.

Thank you to Assens Fjernvarme, all speakers, moderators, and participating members for contributing to an engaging and insightful day.
