District Energy News

Yesterday’s DBDH Members’ Gathering brought together a wide range of representatives from our member companies for a dynamic day of knowledge sharing, engaging presentations, and future-oriented dialogue.

The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Henrik Bay, followed by an insightful tour of the Frederiksberg hospital grounds led by Thomas Reinwald Sørensen – including a closer look at Frederiksberg Forsyning’s impressive heat pump facility.

Throughout the day, participants were treated to a series of inspiring presentations and lively discussions. We explored market opportunities in Poland and Ukraine, and learned how utilities are already leveraging AI and data-driven tools to enhance and optimize district heating systems.

A heartfelt thank you to our excellent presenters: Niels Malskær, Lars Gullev, Jesper Stræde, Rasmus Stevn Nielsen, and Lesia Lovygnenko. We also extend our thanks to Sara Blicher Forchhammer and Bue Tidemann from the Danish Energy Agency for sharing valuable insights into Denmark’s current initiatives in Poland and Ukraine.

Special appreciation goes to Henrik Madsen and Christina Kjær Langeland for their illuminating presentation on the transformative potential of AI and data within district heating.

A highlight of the day was the announcement of this year’s DBDH awards – congratulations to Gina Nielsen, named DBDH Person of the Year, and Albertslund Forsyning, recognized as DBDH Company of the Year!

The afternoon focused on the theme “Experiences with New Large-Scale District Heating Plants.” Tom Jensen and Frederik Rugaard gave an interesting presentation on thermal heat storage, while Silas Alvin Hupfeld shared insights from Aalborg’s parallel implementation of several new heating plants.

We closed the day with our traditional “Fjernvarmetorv” – 10-minute speed talks at small round tables. Highlights included: Anders Møller on how utilities can drive municipal growth, Johan Sølvhøj on the merger of Egedal and Vestforbrænding, Morten Jordt Duedahl and Hanne Kortegaard Støchkel on the Plan2Heat Hessen project and process heat.

This session also gave us the chance to properly welcome some of our new members. A warm welcome to Nordisk Wavin and Skanego – we’re excited to have you on board!
