The INTREPIDH journey began by exploring whether district heating could provide a viable source of process heat for European industry. Twelve cases across five countries showed that it can, particularly when utilities, industries, municipalities, and energy agencies approach the opportunity with openness and a willingness to collaborate (see Best practice catalogue).
Our final publication turns these experiences into practical recommendations for the actors who can make these collaborations happen. It presents practical recommendations for municipalities, energy agencies, district heating providers, and industrial companies to move from an initial conversation towards an affordable and reliable energy solution.
The publication also highlights how collaboration, early dialogue, and tailored solutions can turn local opportunities into successful long-term partnerships. Municipalities can integrate industry into heat planning, energy agencies can connect actors and share knowledge, district heating providers can develop industry as a strategic customer segment, and industrial companies can explore district heating as part of a diversified transition strategy.
