October 20 – October 21
Join DBDH for a Danish district heating delegation visit to Austria on October 20–21, 2026, co-organized with the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT).
The visit is aimed at Danish companies with solutions and expertise in district heating. It offers a direct opportunity to meet Austrian utilities, sector leaders, and decision-makers from major Austrian Stadtwerke in Salzburg, Linz, Vienna, and Graz.
Purpose of the delegation visit
The export promotion aims to:
- Present Danish district heating solutions and system expertise to Austrian utilities
- Increase awareness of Danish technologies and approaches
- Strengthen networks between Danish companies and Austrian decision-makers
- Support Austria’s green transition with Danish district heating experience
- Create direct dialogue on practical solutions for replacing fossil fuels and expanding district heating
District heating in Austria
Austria is a medium-sized district heating market, with district heating accounting for approximately 15% of residential space heating.
At the same time, more than 50% of household heating is still based on gas and oil. Austria has recently decided that gas boilers may no longer be installed in new homes, and there is a strong political focus on converting existing gas-heated households to alternative solutions.
The district heating sector is also working to phase out fossil fuels in heat supply, where fossil sources still account for close to 50%. As a result, the Austrian district heating market is expected to grow significantly in the coming years.
Austrian utilities are therefore looking for new solutions that can help:
- Replace fossil heat sources
- Optimize existing district heating networks
- Support expansion into new areas
- Convert gas-based areas to district heating
- Improve load balancing, asset management, and network efficiency
