As Poland accelerates its shift away from coal and toward sustainable heating, the city of Bytom has been selected for an EIFO Green Accelerator pilot focused on strategic, long-term modernization.
With support from the EIFO Green Accelerator Facility, the project brings together Danish companies Aalborg CSP, Fenagy, and EMD International, working in partnership with DBDH, to deliver forward-looking solutions for decarbonizing Bytom’s district heating system. The collaboration aims to combine Danish technological innovation with local insights to create a roadmap for clean, efficient, and reliable heat supply in the years to come.
The project focuses on the development of a Strategic Development Plan for the municipal district heating utility PEC Bytom. The plan will provide a structured roadmap for the utility’s transition to a low-carbon energy supply and lay the groundwork for future investments in clean heating technologies.
The Danish companies bring targeted solutions to support the transformation:
- Aalborg CSP contributes expertise in large-scale solar and thermal storage solutions that enable flexible, renewable heat supply.
- Fenagy delivers heat pump technology tailored to district heating systems, offering highly efficient and fossil-free energy production.
- EMD International provides modelling and planning tools to evaluate technology options and optimize system design for cost-effectiveness and sustainability.
This project reflects the importance Denmark places on supporting Poland’s green heating transition. It builds on strong partnerships between Danish technology providers, local utilities, and key stakeholders to demonstrate scalable and replicable models for decarbonizing municipal heating systems.
Through stakeholder dialogue, site visits, and close collaboration with PEC Bytom, the project aims to develop not just a plan, but a shared vision for the future of district heating in the city – and across the region.
