Germany | Visit from VKU NRW to Denmark | Study Tour

April 27 April 28

DBDH invites a delegation from German municipal utilities (VKU NRW) to a two-day study tour in Denmark focused on practical district heating solutions and first-hand insight into how Danish utilities work with heat decarbonisation, system integration, network expansion, and municipal heat planning.

The programme is specially designed for the group, representing operators of district heating, local heating, and emerging low-temperature networks at different stages of transformation. Through presentations, workshops, and site visits, participants will explore key themes, including renewable heat production, large heat pumps, thermal storage, surplus heat, lower network temperatures, and customer engagement.

On Day 1, the programme includes DBDH, Frederiksberg Utility, Smørum Kraftvarme, and Hillerød Forsyning. Topics include district heating in Denmark, customer agreements and service, renewable heat production, pipe networks, heat pumps, thermal storage, solar thermal, and district heating expansion. The day concludes with a networking dinner.

On Day 2, participants will visit FORS Utility and Holbæk Municipality, Høje Taastrup District Heating, and CopenHill in Copenhagen. The focus will be on wastewater-based heat pumps, municipal heat planning, lowering network temperatures, surplus heat from data centres, district cooling, thermal energy storage, and the role of waste-to-energy in the Copenhagen district heating system.

The programme includes site visits, workshops, lunches, and dinner.
