Asia Urban Energy Assembly – Towards a NetZero Future in the Asia Pacific

DBDH partner, the Asian Pacific Urban Energy Association (APUEA), organizes a district cooling conference with a focus on South-East at the annual ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week, which is a well-established event and one of ASEAN’s most prominent international exhibition and conference on Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Energy Storage, Environmental and Electric Vehicle Technology.

The district cooling conference offers a great platform to meet, network, exhibit, and obtain knowledge of the energy markets in ASEAN.

The 3rd edition of the Asia Urban Energy Assembly is scheduled as a two-day international conference from July 4th to 5th at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand.

In 2023, ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week attracted over 28,000 visitors from 61 countries, including 6,600 conference delegates, establishing itself as a premier platform in the region for updates on market developments, technologies, financing, and project opportunities.

With most countries in the Asia-Pacific region aiming for net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) targets by 2050, this year’s Asia Urban Energy Assembly is themed “Towards a Net Zero Future in the Asia-Pacific.” It aims to present, discuss, and explore energy solutions conducive to the energy transition, aiding countries in meeting their climate objectives.

Renewable Energy resources in the APAC region are abundant, with Southeast Asia alone boasting 17.2 TW of available Renewable Energy resources. For instance, harnessing just 1% of Thailand’s Solar PV resources could meet the country’s total power production capacity of 49 GW.

Addressing the world’s escalating cooling demand is crucial to achieving climate targets. Currently, space cooling accounts for 10% of global GHG emissions, and without intervention, the demand is projected to triple by 2050 due to rising temperatures, population growth, and economic expansion. The bulk of this demand emanates from Asia, where cooling is often referred to as the “elephant in the waiting room” due to its pivotal role in the energy transition. It’s imperative to act swiftly to tackle this challenge.

The 3rd edition of the Asia Urban Energy Assembly will explore how both public and private sectors can prepare for the future by leveraging current technologies and solutions to enhance energy efficiency and integrate more renewable energy into society.

Additionally, the event will delve into the role of District Energy systems as a crucial tool in addressing the burgeoning cooling demand in the Asia Pacific region. Anticipated attendees include energy professionals from the public and private sectors, encompassing utilities, government officials, policymakers, developers, consultants, investors, international organizations, universities, and more.

The event is hosted by APUEA and Informa Markets.
