Anna Billerbeck

Anna Billerbeck is an expert in district heating, energy system modelling and energy economics.

She is a researcher and project manager at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) in Germany. She works in national and international research and consultancy projects, primarily for the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the European Commission.

She studied Industrial Engineering and Energy Economics and holds a PhD from the University of Freiburg, which focused on the topic of “District heating in a climate-neutral energy system – Modelling of transformation pathways and implications for policies”.

Her research focuses on designing and analysing energy system scenarios, energy markets, financing concepts and social preferences in the context of energy and heat transitions. She specialises in energy system modelling, socio-economic analysis, and the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of policy measures.

She has published work in Energy Policy, Utilities Policy, Energy and Smart Energy, and has contributed to national and international reports.
